Manohla Dargis writes in her review in The New York Times: "Nobody is gutted in Sound of My Voice, a smart, effectively unsettling movie about the need to believe and the hard, cruel arts of persuasion. But over time the men and women who meet in a mysterious house in an anonymous Los Angeles neighborhood — where they shed their clothes and cleanse their bodies in a ritual — are opened up bit by bit, wound by wound, until they’re sobbing and laughing, their insides smeared across the carpet."[download for free sound of my voice]. Plot

Set 'around 1950', The Deep Blue Sea tells the story of Hester Collyer, the younger wife of High Court judge Sir William Collyer, who has embarked on a passionate affair with Freddie Page, a handsome young former RAF pilot troubled by his memories of the war; that the mix of fear and excitement once in his life is missing.

The majority of the film takes place during one day in Hester's flat, a day on which she has decided to commit suicide. Her attempt fails and as she recovers, the story of her affair and her married life is played out in a mosaic of short and sporadic flashbacks. We soon discover the constraints of Hester's comfortable marriage, which is affectionate but without sexual passion.

As Hester's affair is discovered she leaves her life of comparative luxury and moves into a small dingy London flat with Freddie. Hester's new lover has awakened her sexuality, but the reckless, thrill-seeking Freddie can never give her the love and stability that her husband gave. Yet to return to a life without passion would be unbearable. The film takes its title from her dilemma of being between the Devil and the deep blue sea.[4]

Department (2012)

141 min  -  Action  -   17 May 2012 (Kuwait)

Department Hindi Movie Review

Story: There ain’t any. After a point you don’t even care. We expected a realistic tale on cops, but Department only has superheroes, fighting for no apparent reason.

Direction: Finally a film that is likely to topple RGV Ki Aag to take the top spot.

Camera Angles: RGV is touching new lows with each film. Department seemed liked it was shot by a mouse, as the camera sneaks into unimaginable places. The focus is usually on the female butt, cleavage or her candy sucking – water dripping lips. It doesn’t even spare Sanjay Dutt’s teeth and Rana Daggubati’s crotch.

Performances: Rana Daggubati tries hard, but carries just one expression throughout. Sanjay Dutt doesn’t look fit enough for the role. As for Amitabh Bachchan, it’s heart-breaking to see the legendary actor in a psychotic role. Anjana Sukhani has about 10 minutes of screen-time. The talented Abhimanyu Singh is wasted. Madhu Shalini irritates. Of all the performances, Vijay Raaz stands out.

Songs: There are 2 item numbers in Department. One featuring an almost nude Nathalia Kaur, with men in the bar groping her butt. The other with Ganesh Acharya. There is a weirdly shot wedding song sequence too.

Overall, Department is an experiment that falls flat. Save you money and time. Go watch Ishaqzaade or The Avengers instead.
